We all have objects we value in our lives — a favourite tool, a new toy, a treasured keepsake, or a trusty standby — objects we would try and save in an emergency, or simply give us an extra little piece of satisfaction when we use them. As designers we like to think our designs will strike a chord with their users. But how do these objects acquire such value in our lives? What makes an object significant over another? What makes us love an object?
This video came out of a series of semi-structured qualitative interviews I conducted and recorded as part of my Masters study. The video documents some of the themes I identified, and shares some of the stories people shared with me about their beloved object.
